After
breakfast enjoy a full-day's sightseeing tour of Old and New Delhi.
The Old Delhi tour includes a visit to Raj Ghat (the memorial to
Mahatma Gandhi), a drive past the ancient Red Fort (the palace of
the Mughal Shah Jahan's new capital Shahjahanabad), a visit to the
Jama Masjid by bicycle rickshaw (this grand red sandstone and white
marble mosque is Islam's largest religious construction). In New
Delhi you explore the imposing government buildings designed by
Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker in the early 20th century, when
the British moved the imperial capital here from Calcutta - including
the India Gate, Parliament Building and the Rashtrapati Bhawan,
the President's residence. Among earlier historic monuments visited
are the great medieval Qutub Minar and the Indo-Persian style Humayun's
Tomb, a precursor of the Taj Mahal.

4 Delhi/Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore)
Early
transfer to the railway station for the rail journey to Sawai Madhopur
(6 hours). On arrival transfer to the beautiful Oberoi
Vanyavilas for a 2-night stay (Luxury Tent & Breakfast).
Rest of day at leisure.

5 Ranthambore National Park
Morning
and afternoon exploration and game-viewing by jeep in much-filmed
Ranthambore - notable
for its abandoned fortress and lakes - and as one of the best places
in the country to see tigers in the wild, even during the day. A
good time to visit is November - May when the dry deciduous forests
allow the best sightings. The varied topography of Ranthambore
is also home to jackal, mongoose, sloth bear, leopard, and other
species.

6 Ranthambore/Bharatpur
After
reading tiger tracks in the pale morning light, travel to Bharatpur
(118 miles/4 hours) and check-in at Laxmi
Vilas Palace (Room & Breakfast). Afternoon rickshaw ride
in Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary.
Day
7 Bharatpur
Morning
visit to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary for bird-watching by rickshaw.
In the afternoon drive to Agra (3 miles/1hour
30 minutes), visiting en route the ghostly deserted city of Akbar
the Great at Fatehpur Sikri. On arrival in Agra
check-in at the Oberoi Amarvilas
(Premier Room & Breakfast).

8 Agra
Morning
sightseeing tour of Agra, including Agra
Fort and the Taj Mahal. An outstanding example of Mughal architecture,
Agra Fort was long a stronghold of the Mughal Empire under successive
generations - while the white marble Taj Mahal was built by Emperor
Shah Jahan in 1630 in memory of his beloved wife Queen Mumtaz Mahal
to enshrine her mortal remains. It took 20,000 men no less than
22 years to build. In the late afternoon transfer to the station
for the 1610 hrs Kalingautakal Express to Umaria (2nd Class - Air-Conditioned
Carriage).

9 Bandhavgarh National Park
Arrive
Umaria early this morning and transfer to Bandhavgarh
(20 miles) to check-in at the Mahua Kothi
for a 3-night stay (Standard Accommodation - Full Board & game-viewing).
Amid the Satpura Hills, Bandhavgarh is one of India's most scenic
national parks, with tropical forests and woodlands, rocky hills
and grassland valleys. Its forested area is renowned for tiger,
leopard, jackal, jungle cat, wild boar, sloth bear, nilghai and
sambhar. Located a few minutes from the park entrance, Mathua Kothi
is a stylish camp with very comfortable accommodation, offering
safaris twice daily in the Park by open 4x4 safari vehicle, as well
as tiger-viewing by elephant.

Morning
and afternoon game-viewing in the Park.

12 Bandhavgarh/Kanha
Drive
from Bandhavgarh to
Kanha (155 miles/6 hours)
to the Tuli Tiger Resort in
the buffer zone of the Park.This attractive little resort makes
a superb jungle setting for a 3-night stay (Standard Room - Full
Board & game-viewing).

13/14 Kanha National Park
Kanha
is one of India's best-known parks for tiger-viewing - while the
grasslands and deciduous forests also support barasingha, chital,
muntjac, sambar, langur, jungle cat, rhesus monkeys, wild boar and
Asiatic jackal. Occasionally, leopard, gaur, sloth bear, wolf and
dhole (Indian wild dog) can be seen. The Park also boasts a prolific
variety of exotic birdlife. Each day of your stay features game-viewing
by jeep and elephant-back.

15 Kanha/Jabalpur/Delhi
Drive
to Jabalpur (102 miles/4 hours) to join the 1555 hrs departure of
the Gondwana Express to Delhi (1st Class
- Air-Conditioned Sleeper Carriage).

16 Delhi
Arrival
Delhi 0725 hrs and transfer to Claridges
Hotel - (possibility of a two hour wait for check-in). Day at
leisure until transfer to Airport
