Sri Lanka Highlights Tour

Colombo - Sigiriya - Kandy - Nuwara Eliya - Bundala Wildlife Park - (8 Days/5 Nights)

Day 1 London/Colombo
Depart London-Heathrow by Sri Lankan/Emirates overnight flight.

Day 2 Colombo
On arrival in Colombo, you will be met and transferred to The Lanka Oberoi (New Wing) for overnight (Room & Breakfast). Afternoon city tour.

Day 3 Colombo/Polonnaruwa/Sigiriya
After breakfast drive inland up to the ancient ruined city of Polonnaruwa, dating back to the 11th century and in ancient times fortified with three concentric walls, beautified with parks and gardens and sanctified by shrines and sacred places. Major sites include the King's Council Chamber, the rock-cut Lotus Bath and sculptures, Gal Vihare Temple and The Sea of Parakrame (a vast man-made reservoir). Continue to nearby Sigiriya to overnight at The Lodge (Room & Breakfast).

Day 4 Sigiriya /Dambulla/Kandy
Breakfast is followed by an optional visit to the 600 ft high Sigiriya Rock Fortress - an opportunity to ascend to the 3-acre summit of this awesome natural landmark where once stood a royal palace with lush water gardens, and whose surviving fresco gallery of 'heavenly maidens' is world-famous. Continue to neighbouring Dambulla to visit the renowned rock temple (500 ft high and dating back to the first century BC) and to explore the spectacular caves and marvel at over 20,000 sq ft of Buddhist murals. Then visit the Spice Gardens at Matale before ending the day's journey at Kandy, where you overnight at the Mahweli Reach Hotel (Room & Breakfast). In the early evening visit the Temple of the Tooth to enjoy a Kandyan cultural dance performance.

Day 5 Kandy/Pinnawela/Nuwara Eliya
Leave after breakfast to call at famous Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage (optional), to enjoy a lakeside drive and to visit to the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya. Continue then to Nuwara Eliya, stopping at a tea plantation en route. On arrival at Nuwara Elliya, check in at The Grand (Golf Wing - Room & Breakfast), followed by an afternoon tour of this fascinating 'Little England', still alive with echoes of its British colonial past.

Day 6 Nuwara Eliya/Hambantota
After breakfast travel south to the coast at Hambantota and to overnight at The Oasis (Room & Breakfast). In the afternoon enjoy a visit to the Bundala Wildlife Park, whose lagoons are the habitat of many waterbirds and migrant birdlife (including flamingos).

Day 7 Hambantota/Galle/Colombo
Leave after breakfast for the ancient southern town of Galle - a living World Heritage Site - and visit its historic Dutch Fort. Then return by road to Colombo airport for your overnight Sri Lankan Airlines flight to London-Heathrow; or transfer to the beach hotel of your choice for an extended stay in Sri Lanka; or fly on to the Malé to conclude your holiday with a relaxing beach finale in the Maldives.

Day 8 London
Arrive London-Heathrow early morning.
