| Mysore
Less
frenetic in lifestyle than Bangalore, this historic 'City of Palaces'
was once the capital of the Wodeyar dynasty - whose patronage of
art and culture is still evident today in the city's architectural
heritage. Besides many royal buildings, Mysore showcases a number
of monuments dating back to the 18th century days of Hyder Ali and
Tipu Sultan (the latter the arch-enemy of the British), as well
as a number of ancient Hindu temples. Mysore is also something of
a craft centre and famed for its sandalwood products, while the
Brindavan Gardens and ruins of Tipu Sultan's palaces & gardens
at nearby Srirangapatna should not be missed.
