| Madurai
Known
as Southern India's 'City of Festivals and Temples', Madurai was
once the capital of the great Pandya kings. It's Tamil Nadu's second-largest
city and one of the country's oldest heritage sites, enriched by
a cultural legacy passed on from the great Tamil era and dating
back over 2,500 years. Above all, it's synonymous with the historic
and awesome Meenakshi Temple complex - a superb example of South
Indian Dravida architecture, dominated by four great towers (gopurams).
