Given
the name of the 'Pink City' from the predominating colour of its
red sandstone buildings, Jaipur is Rajasthan's commercial and social
hub - a colourful and bustling place steeped in local history and
tradition. Its beautiful forts and palaces abound with images of
the quintessential Rajasthan - among them the majestic hilltop Amber
Palace, the great City Palace and the famous Hawa Mahal ('Palace
of Winds'), with its soaring red sandstone facade elaborately carved
with delicate filigree.
