| Discover India |
Visiting India can be a life-changing experience. Few other single
countries can awaken and revitalise every one of the senses in the
same way. Its spectacular canvas frames an amazing vastness and
variety - spanning over 4,000 miles of tropical coastline, vast
sun-baked deserts, deep jungles and snow-crowned Himalayan peaks.
Into this larger-than-life backdrop India has fashioned a flamboyant
tapestry of ancient cultures and traditions whose exotic emblems
and echoes flourish in countless great temples, palaces and fortresses.
Centre stage are teeming city streets, colourful bazaars, timeless
rural villages - and burgeoning 21st century technology. Unique
in its kaleidoscope of the unexpected, India weaves a spell that
inspires the imagination and enriches the perceptions - for the
first-time or frequent visitor alike!

Most
popular choice for first-time visitors is Northern India, focusing
on the 'Golden Triangle' of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, the latter in
the romantic desert state of Rajasthan with its palaces, temples and
fortresses, camels, peacocks and wildlife - and to the east the temples
of Khajuraho and sacred city of Varanasi.
Beyond lies bustling Kolkata (Calcutta), gateway to the tea plantations,
hill tribes, diverse wildlife and stunning mountain landscapes of
Eastern India, not to mention the beaches of the Bengal coast.
Many of those returning to India for a second visit are drawn to the
South, whose richly varied scenery and cultures encompass historic
cities like Chennai (Madras), the sunlit tropical landscapes of Kerala with its long beaches and magical palm-lined backwaters, spectacular Mysore, historic Kochi (Cochin), the great temples of Tamil Nadu,
wildlife and hill-stations, lush paddy fields, spice and tea plantations
and serene lakes.
On the west coast are Mumbai, India's largest and fastest-growing
city and the golden beaches of Goa. And in the far north in the foothills
of the Himalayas are hill retreats and lakes where the air is cool
and the scenery breathtaking. |
