The Borneo Rainforest
Lodge is a basic and rustic international-standard lodge built beside
the Danum River in the Danum Valley
Conservation Area. Unlike mass-market tourist destinations, the
lodge accommodates a maximum of 60 people, ensuring each guest a
unique and individual jungle experience. The fine facilities with
basic comforts make it possible to explore the incredible diversity
and complexity of the rainforest and offer a unique opportunity
for guests to understand the primeval Borneo Rainforest in today's
conservation realities.
The Danum Valley, a primary rainforest jungle, is renowned for
its rich variety of both plants and wildlife, There are over 320
species of tree found in just one hectare of jungle. The better
known species like Kapur, Keruing and Seraya are found in abundance
and they can grow up to 50 meters with their huge buttress roots.
Orchids, lianas, ferns, shrubs and many others make up the remaining
exceptional flora diversity. The fauna is not less impressive, with
many rare and endangered animals among its habitants. Contained
in the pristine jungle are some of Malaysia’s most exciting
animals the rare Sumatran Rhino, Proboscis Monkeys, Orang Utans,
Asia Elephants, 124 species of mammals, 72 species of reptiles,
56 species of amphibians and over 275 species of birds. Encounters
with mouse deer, lizards, butterflies and several species of monkeys
are quite common. Guests can frequently see the orang utan or a
group of elephants roaming around in the jungle. In the morning
one could be awaken by the haunting calls of the Borneo Gibbon. |
