Day
1 London /Kota Kinabalu
Depart
London Heathrow by scheduled airline.
Day
2 Kota Kinabalu
After
changing at Kuala Lumpur, fly to Kota
Kinabalu and transfer to the Jesselton Hotel for
overnight (No meals).
Day
3 Kota Kinabalu/Sipadan-Mabul Resort
Early
morning transfer to the airport for the 45-minute flight to Tawau
and overland journey (60 minutes) to Semporna Jetty, where a 40-minute
speedboat crossing brings you to the little 27-room Sipadan-Mabul
Resort, overlooking the beautiful waters of the Celebes Sea and
with traditionally-styled beach chalet accommodation, complete with
private shower and air-conditioning! After lunch, transfer to Sipadan,
Mabul or Kapalai Island (approx. 15 minutes) for your first orientation
dive amid a matchless setting of crystal seas, pristine beaches, coral-rich
underwater overhangs, caverns, funnels and ledges alive with brilliantly-hued
fish. 4 nights Sipadan-Mabul Resort (Full Board).
Days
4/6 Sipadan-Mabul Resort
Three
days (longer stays can be arranged) to enjoy this wonderful natural
environment, with three boat dives daily included in your arrangements
in this idyllic location.
Day
7 Sipadan-Mabul Resort/Sandakan
After
lunch transfer by speedboat to Semporna Jetty, continuing by road
to Tawau airport for the 40-minute flight to Sandakan for an overnight at the Sabah Hotel (deluxe room with breakfast).
Day
8 Sandakan/Sukau
Morning
visit to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary to see the feeding of the orangutans being prepared for return to
the wild. A visit is also made to the Rainforest Interpretation Centre
with its fascinating plant exhibits and garden of endemic trees. Continue
to Sukau (80 miles), arriving for lunch at Sukau Rainforest Lodge on
the banks of the great Kinabatangan river. In the afternoon enjoy
a 2-hour river cruise in search of the extraordinary Proboscis monkeys,
as well as orang-utan and many beautiful bird species. Overnight Sukau
Rainforest Lodge (Full Board).
Day
9 Kinabatangan River
Wake
up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills! After an early breakfast
take a morning cruise to the Kelenanap oxbow lake for a short lakeside
jungle walk in quest of wildlife in this beautiful wilderness setting.
After lunch there's a further river tour, downstream this time, to
seek out more wildlife. Come nightfall you can also enjoy an optional
night walk or river cruise to look for nocturnal animals. Overnight
Sukau Rainforest Lodge.
Day
10 Kinabatangan River/ Kota Kinabalu
After
breakfast take a 20-minute trek through the rainforest to the entrance
of the famous Gomantong Caves. Explore the vast chambers in search
of their rich fauna that includes bats, swiftlets and crabs. Continue
to Sandakan for lunch and a brief city tour before your flight to
Kota Kinabalu. Transfer on arrival to the Likas Square Business Suites
for overnight.
Day 11 Kota Kinabalu/London
Transfer
to the airport for your flight to Kuala Lumpur and connecting overnight
flight.
