All the mystery and magic of Malaysia is captured within the state of Sabah on the great island of Borneo. Here are South East Asia's oldest jungles, highest peaks, superb South China Sea beaches - and the rainforests, rivers and offshore islands that are the unspoilt habitat of orang-utans, Proboscis monkeys, green turtles and other fascinating wildlife species to be seen on this exciting private Sabah tour.

Day 1 London /Kota Kinabalu
Depart London Heathrow by Malaysia Airlines.

Day 2 Kota Kinabalu

After changing at Kuala Lumpur, fly to Kota Kinabalu and transfer to the Jesselton Hotel for overnight (No meals)

Day 3 Gaya & Sapi Islands
Morning visit by boat to Gaya Island, exploring a trail through the mangrove swamps and tropical rainforest and learning about the uses of the medicinal plants and tropical hardwoods. Continue to Sapi Island for picnic lunch and an afternoon free for snorkeling and swimming. Overnight Jesselton Hotel.

Day 4 Bavangazzo Longhouse
Drive north this morning, visiting Kota Belud (famed for its open-air Sunday market, live buffalo market and Bajau horsemen), en route to Kudat, the land of the Rungus people. Witness traditional longhouse life and admire the sarongs and huge brass bracelets of the village women. Take an afternoon swim from an unspoilt coral beach nearby before enjoying dinner and a cultural performance in a traditional thatched Rungus longhouse on stilts. Overnight in a twin-bedded longhouse room.

Day 5 Bavangazzo/Kinabalu National Park
After breakfast travel overland to Kinabalu National Park, 5,000 ft above sea level, a paradise for botanists and birdwatchers, where you enjoy spectacular mountain scenery as you drive through the Crocker range to reach the Park headquarters. Here there's a chance to explore the many trails and identify the many varieties of orchids, rhododendrons, pitcher plants and ferns among the oak and chestnut montane forest. Overnight in a twin-bedded cabin.

Day 6 Kinabalu National Park/Kota Kinabalu
This morning drive to Poring, whose contrasting setting is one of tropical lowland rainforest- with superb birdlife. Explore the jungle trail up to the treetop canopy walkways over 150 ft above the forest floor! Visit Kipungit Waterfall and relax in the hot sulphur pools. Return in the afternoon to Kota Kinabalu. Overnight Hotel Jesselton Hotel.

Day 7 Kota Kinabalu/Selingan
Early morning flight to Sandakan and transfer to the jetty for the 45-minute crossing to Selingan Island, a national conservation area. The rest of the day is at leisure for swimming and snorkeling. After dinner there's an opportunity to watch green turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs on the beach - and the transplanting of the eggs to the island hatchery and release of the baby turtles back to the sea (in which you can assist!). Overnight in dormitory-style chalet accommodation.

Day 8 Sepilok & Sukau
After breakfast return by boat to Sandakan and visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary for the feeding of the orang- utans being prepared for return to the wild. Drive to Sukau (80 miles) and the Sukau Rainforest Lodge on the banks of the great Kinabatangan river. Afternoon free. Overnight Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Day 9 Kinabatangan River
Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills! Enjoy morning and afternoon river cruises (including a jungle walk), in search of the extraordinary proboscis monkey, orang utan and a host of beautiful bird species. Overnight Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Day 10 Gomantong Caves/Danum River
After breakfast travel overland to the famous Gomantong Caves and spend the morning exploring the caves and the surrounding forest. Lunch is taken en route as your drive continues to the Danum River, whose protected lowland rainforests is the setting of the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. This is the habitat of the rare Sumatran rhinoceros, elephant, clouded leopard and orangutans - and 275 bird species have been recorded! Evening slide show and after-dark spotlight wildlife viewing (weather permitting). Overnight Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 11 Danum River
An exciting day exploration, wildlife viewing and a dip in the waterfall rock pools. Overnight Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 12 Danum River/Kota Kinabalu
Transfer to Lahad Datu airport for the flight to Kota Kinabalu. Transfer to Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort, with rest of day at leisure. Overnight Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort.

Days 13/14 Kota Kinabalu
At leisure by the beach at Tanjung Aru Resort.

Day 15 Kota Kinabalu/London
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Kuala Lumpur and connecting overnight flight. to London
