Beaches & Borneo Tour

Pangkor Laut - Sandakan - Sukau - Danum Valley - (13 Days/10 Nights)

Experience the magic of Malaysia to the full on a fascinating private tour that contrasts the exotic beaches of the tropical island of Pangkor Laut with the great rivers and rainforests of Sabah on Borneo - home of the orang-utan, the unique Proboscis monkey and the rare Sumatran rhino.

Day 1 London /Kuala Lumpur
Depart London Heathrow by Malaysia Airlines.

Day 2 Kuala Lumpur
On arrival transfer by private car to the luxurious Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur. Overnight in a deluxe room (with breakfast).

Day 3 Kuala Lumpur/Pangkor Laut
After breakfast private car transfer to Lumut Jetty (approx. 3 hrs), followed by a 15-minute ferry transfer to the Pangkor Laut Island. Shaped by - and approachable only by - the sea, Pangkor Laut Resort's Royal Bay is itself built out into the water. Designed in the style of a Malay 'Kampong', Royal Bay Sea Villas are built on stilts over the sea, with panoramic views from bedroom and bathroom.

Days 4/6 Pangkor Laut Resort
At leisure amid the escapist surroundings of idyllic Pangkor Laut, with over 300 acres of beautiful beaches and tropical jungle. Royal Bay features sheltered waters where swimming and water sports can be enjoyed. Marine Bay is a tiny cove with great snorkeling opportunities. Day 7 Pangkor Laut/Sandakan
After breakfast transfer by ferry to Lumut Jetty for a private car transfer to 'KL' and the flight by Malaysia Airlines to Kota Kinabalu and connection to Sandakan. Transfer to the Sepilok Nature Resort for overnight (deluxe room with breakfast).

Day 8 Sandakan/Sepilok/Sukau
After breakfast transfer from the Sepilok Nature Resort to Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary. Walk ten minutes through the rainforest to witness the feeding of the orang- utans . Then drive on 100 kms to Sukau and take the 10-minute boat ride to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge for lunch. Later enjoy a 2-hour river cruise in search of wild Proboscis monkeys along the Kinabatangan River. Birdlife is especially rich here, including six species of hornbills, and kingfishers, egrets, darters, owls and kites Return for a solar-heated hot shower, candlelight dinner and slide show. Overnight Sukau Rainforest Lodge (full board).

Day 9 Sukau
At leisure at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Day 10 Sukau/Danum Valley
After breakfast transfer to the Gomantong Caves. Trek 20 minutes through the rainforest to the cave entrance. Explore the chambers in search of cave fauna, bats, swiftlets and crabs. In season you can witness the collecting (with bamboo ladders and poles) of birds' nests by the local people. Continue overland through forest, cocoa and soft-wood plantations to the Borneo Rainforest Lodge - set by the Danum River on the edge of 438 sq. km of undisturbed lowland rainforest. The remote Lodge is home to all of Sabah's lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran rhinoceros, elephants, clouded leopards and orang- utans. In the evening there's a slide show and if the weather permits you can go game-viewing to see some of the nocturnal animals by spotlight. Overnight Borneo Rainforest Lodge (full board).

Day 11 Borneo Rainforest Lodge
Early-morning birdwalk. Spend the day exploring the dense forest for birds and mammals. Trek to a waterfall and take a dip in the refreshing rock pools. Lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon enjoy a jungle walk through trails leading to the canopy walkway. Overnight Borneo Rainforest Lodge (full board).

Day 12 Borneo Rainforest Lodge/London
Morning trek in search of mammals and birds. Lunch at the Field Centre. Then transfer to Lahad Datu airport for the Malaysia Airlines flight to Kota Kinabalu and connecting overnight flight.
