The
principles of a holistic healing shastra called simply 'Ayurveda',
were first pioneered more than 5,000 years ago. 'Massage' - a word
derived from the Greek - is the oldest of all techniques for relieving
pain, shaping the organs, regenerating tissues and correcting almost
all internal malfunctions. In Ayurveda,
the human body constitutes three functional entities, the balance
of which maintains health. Acknowledging the importance of massage,
all special treatments in Kerala are formulated with a holistic
approach to the body and mind.
A
Golden Days 'Ayurveda Tour'
Based
at the Ayurveda Centre at the Taj Residency, Calicut our tour incorporates
the very best hospitality of this famous centre bearing the trademark
Taj hospitality, with a great deal of very serious pampering! The
air-conditioned Taj Ayurvedic Centre offers rejuvenation and detoxification
programmes as well as effective treatment for arthritis, rheumatism,
spondilitis, back problems, Migraine, obesity, blood pressure and
nervous disorders. The Centre has fully qualified doctors, trained
therapists and yoga instructors. The facilities include three treatment
rooms (with self-contained bathrooms and steam rooms), a yoga room
and meditation centre.
Treatment
in Ayurveda involves a life-style consultation and the actual treatment
- a cleansing of body, mind and soul. Ayurveda teaches that an imbalance
in any one of these dimensions leads to 'ill being'. It is only
after a detailed consultation that the physician determines the
cause of imbalance and the patient is given a detailed description
of the recommended treatment.
There
is a choice of 7, 14, 21 and 35-day programmes. The 7-day programme
is geared towards revitalisation by overcoming tiredness and fatigue
- achieved with medicated herbal oils administered during the daily
sessions of oil therapy, the internal medicines, as well as the
prescribed yoga postures. The 14-day programme is a more intensive
course where the oil therapy pervades beyond the 7 layers of skin,
right down to the bone marrow and results in the alleviation of
joint pain, spondilitis and insomnia. The 21-day programme allows
the oil to penetrate right into the body to benefit internal organs
and operates as a detoxification process. The 35-day programme is
the ideal therapeutic package as it takes 28 days to convert food
into its final essence (Ojas). The 35-day allows complete detoxification.
