Located in Sepilok Forest Reserve, a tropical lowland forest 40 minutes' drive from Sandakan, this famous sanctuary for lost or orphaned orang-utans is where these gentle creatures (the original 'wild men' of Borneo) are carefully rehabilitated and taught survival skills under a successful conservation programme. You can observe their antics at close range from a viewing platform as they climb trees and swing through the forest on ropes and vines.
