The fame of this East Coast beach derives especially from its environmental importance as one of the few locations in the world chosen by giant leatherback turtles - at up to 13cwt the largest species of sea-turtle - to come ashore to lay their eggs. Visit between May and September to watch this rare spectacle on an unforgettable night-time vigil. Rantau Abang is best visited from the Tanjong Jara Beach Resort a few miles away. |
