Penang |
|
|
Malaysia
in microcosm, linked by bridge to the mainland, Penang is the
country's major Indian Ocean island resort. Its luxuriant spice
and fruit plantation-covered tropical interior rises to over
2,700 ft - a funicular will take you to the peak - and the beautiful
coastline is broken by bays and beaches on the north coast.
This is the setting of a number of impressive resort hotels;
and Georgetown, whose colonial architecture, temples, bargain-filled
bazaars and old Chinatown reflect an exotic past.
